About Springfield Lodge Care Home

Nestled in the quiet village of West Rainton in County Durham, Springfield Lodge Care Home offers a peaceful retreat and a welcoming community where compassion meets comfort.

Our well-appointed and spacious rooms provide a homely private environment, while communal spaces are designed to foster a sense of community and belonging and encourage social interaction.

The Home has close bonds with the local community, with many neighbours being Dementia Friends and Champions.

Whether it’s having a cup of tea in the lounge, or enjoying the sun in one of the courtyards, Springfield Lodge feels like family.

Resident rooms

Our rooms are spacious and have views of our courtyards, gardens, or the beautiful Durham country side.

We supply wardrobes and drawers as a standard, but Residents are welcome to bring their own furniture if preferred.

Common areas

Springfield Lodge is laid out in a single floor and it is fully wheelchair accesible.

Our common areas, include a spacious lounge leading to our bright dining room, and a second multi-use lounge at the back of the property.

Residents can also enjoy our 3 external courtyards, overlooking our wrap-around gardens, our special smoking-permitted courtyard, and our central courtyard featuring a Koi fish pond.

Activities

Our Activity Coordinators prepare a monthly schedule of events for Residents, which may include:

  • Walks around the village

  • Adapted exercising classes

  • Arts and crafts

  • Dancing

  • Table games (Bingo, Dominoes, etc)

  • Physical therapy (Bowling, Balloons, etc)

  • Seasonal parties

  • Visits from local schools, volunteering groups and entertainers

In addition to our scheduled activities, Residents have access to technology-assited Reminiscence Interactive Therapy Activities (RITA) all year round.

As part of our Community Engagement activities, Springfield Lodge was featured on the “Sharing the Joy of Christmas” episode of Songs of Praise, which aired on BBC One on 17 December 2023.

Food and drink

Residents enjoy a 3-week rolling menu filled with nutritious, homely meals cooked in-house.

We cater for a range of dietary needs, including dysphagia (and other soft diets), diabetic-friendly and vegetarian.

Visitors

Relatives are welcomed at anytime, although we kindly ask that you aim to visit outside of protected meal times.

We are a pet friendly home and welcome well trained pet visitors with a little advanced notice.

Prospective Residents can book a tour to be shown around, meet our team and have their questions answered.

Free visitor parking is available near the entrance and at the back of our Home.

Driving:

Take the A1(M) to A690 in Durham. From the A1(M), take exit 62 towards Sunderland/Durham/Consett/A691.

At the Carrville Interchange roundabout:

  • From the South: Take the 3rd exit onto A690.

  • From the North: Take the 1st exit onto A690.

Continue on the A690 for 1.4 miles.

Turn left onto Lambton View and continue onto Chantry Place for 0.3 miles.

Turn left onto Hall Lane, then left onto North Street.

Springfield Lodge will be on your right just before the intersection.
