About Westoe Grange Care Home

Located in the heart of the historic Westoe Village in South Shields, Westoe Grange offers exceptional care within a homely yet energising setting, in a home that enjoys a long-standing reputation within the local community.

The home is conveniently located near shops, public transport hubs and the seafront, providing ample opportunities for Residents to enjoy days out with Friends and Family.

Our well-appointed rooms provide a quiet private refuge, whilst common areas are full of activities focused on helping Residents keep their minds sharp, stay active and socialise with one another.

Whether it’s enjoying the sun in the patio, or playing board games in the lounge, Westoe Grange feels like family.

Resident rooms

Our rooms are bright, airy and modern, and come furnished with a single bed, a wardrobe, a bedside table, a large chest of drawers, an ocassional table and comfortable seating, as a standard.

Residents are also welcome to bring their own furniture if preferred.

Common areas

Our home has a range of common areas, including a spacious dining room, lounges, a Resident’s kitchenette and our very own adapted hair salon.

Residents can enjoy the best of the British weather in our patio, which is equipped with a relaxing seating area.

We also have a lift and stair lift, making our home fully wheelchair accesible.

Activities

Our Activity Coordinators prepare a monthly schedule of events for Residents, which may include:

  • Adapted exercising classes

  • Arts and crafts

  • Quizzes

  • Manicures

  • Singing and dancing

  • Board games

  • Animal therapy

  • Summer fairs

  • Visits from local schools, volunteering groups and entertainers

Weather permitting, days out are organised regularly. Entrance fees to paid-for venues are covered by the Resident, but transportation is provided free of charge.

Food and drink

Meals are prepared in-house by our catering team, who offer a varied range of home-style cooking with traditional northern dishes as well as offering international dishes from around the world.

Our 4-week rolling menu alternates twice per year and includes alternatives that can be requested at any time.

We cater for a range of dietary needs and preferences, including allergen-free, dysphagia (and other soft diets), vegetarian and vegan.

Visitors

Relatives are welcomed at anytime, altough we kindly ask that you aim to visit outside of protected meal times.

Visitors who wish to share a meal with a Resident can request this with 48hrs notice.

We can provide refreshments and sandwiches for relatives who have travelled long distances on short notice.

We are a pet friendly home and welcome well trained pet visitors with a little advanced notice.

Prospective Residents can book a tour to be shown around, meet our team and have their questions answered.

Meet the Westoe Grange Team

  • Carole Blackett

    REGISTERED HOME MANAGER

    Carole has worked in the care sector for over 30 years, joining Westoe Grange in 1997. She became its Registered Manager in 2006, when she completed her level 5 Diploma in leadership (Health & Social Care)and registered with CQC.

    Carole inherited her passion for care from generations of her family caring for people in a variety of roles, and she is a strong believer that older people are at the heart of the community.

    In her spare time she enjoys walking or hiking with her partner and their German shepherd dog.

  • Kirsty Cunningham

    ASSISTANT MANAGER

    Kirsty had been in the private sector for over 20 years and has had a number of care roles before joining Ascot Care in 2019 and becoming Assistant Manager at Westoe Grange in 2021.

    She strives to improve herself and develop professionally, and is near completion of her level 5 Diploma in Leadership (Health & Social Care).

    Kirsty is an animal lover and has a number of house cats.

Driving:

  • From the A1(M), follow the signs for Tyne Tunnel/South Shields to merge into A194(M)/Leam Lane and continue for 7.8 miles.

  • At the end of the road, take the 1st exit and stay on A194 for 0.2 miles.

  • At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Barnes Road. Continue left as it becomes Dean Road and continue for 0.8 miles.

  • At the roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Imeary Street. Turn right onto East George Potts Street, turn right onto Westoe Road, then turn left onto Horsley Hill Road.

  • Westoe Grange will be on your immediate right.

By Metro / Ferry:

Westoe Grange Care Home is a 10-minute walk from the Chichester Metro station, a 20-minute walk from the South Shields Metro station, and a 30 minute walk from the South Shields Ferry.

By Bus from the South Shields Interchange:

  • Buses 1 and 8 stop at Westoe Horsley Hill Road (Stop ID: twrgmgad), directly opposite the entrance of Westoe Grange.

  • Buses 4, 24 and 30 stop at Westoe Dean Road - Ada Street (Stop ID: twrgmdwg), a 2-minute walk to Westoe Grange.

  • Buses 5, 5A,18, 27 and all other mentioned above, stop at Westoe Road - Mowbray Road (Stop ID: twrgmdwt), a 4-minute walk from Westoe Grange.
